Grammys criticized as ‘racist’ after K-pop stars snubbed

The announcement of the 2025 Grammy nominations left K-pop fans furious that there was no nod to any K-pop acts.

Angry fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their anger, with many accusing the Grammys of racism and bias.

“Well, what we expected from the racist Grammys,” one fan wrote, mirroring the sentiment of many others.

“The Grammys are a joke right now. Jungkook had a huge hit. Lisa outshone a lot of the nominated artists. These two had back-to-back hits but no nominations. What are the Grammys looking for in nominations? Whiteness?” Another user lashed out.

“How do Grammy voters choose who to nominate? They choose the same artists every year. Do they even listen to the performances or do they just choose who they like?” one user questioned the integrity of the voting process.

A fourth user shared their anguish: “Jungkook is the most overlooked artist in the music industry, I swear! Last year, Seven, and this year, SNTY. I’m so angry. Golden He made and broke so many records.”

Despite several submissions from major K-pop stars such as Stray Kids, BLACKPINK’s Lisa, and BTS for various categories, none of the artists received nominations, despite all of their releases being huge hits.

The Grammy Awards have long faced criticism for their perceived bias against Asian artists, with K-pop frequently left out despite its global success.

Additionally, BTS remains the only K-pop group to receive direct Grammy nominations, earning five nominations in the last three years. However, they have not yet won in any category.
