Free Child Support Assistance Program to Be Held Nov. 9 in Detroit

DETROIT, MI (WXYZ) – The Salvation Army William Booth Legal Aid Clinic, in coordination with the Third Judicial Circuit of Michigan and the Wayne County Friend of the Court, will conduct a Free Child Support Assistance Program children’s on Saturday, November 9 from 1 to 4 pm

The event will be held at the Wayne County Community College District Northwest Campus at 8200 W. Outer Drive in Detroit. The event is open to anyone who has any questions about their child support case in Wayne County. Attendees will benefit from the expertise of volunteer attorneys with experience in family law who will provide legal consultation related to issues such as child support, parenting time and custody issues. Attorneys will also help complete motion packages.

A brief presentation on the State of Michigan Arrears Forgiveness Program will be held at 1 p.m., but attendance at that presentation is not required during the three-hour event. Interested parties can also meet with child support professionals who are available to help parents complete the necessary paperwork to be eligible for this program. If they qualify, they may be entitled to have some or all of their state arrears removed. Several public community service agencies will be on site to offer additional resources and non-legal support for all attendees, including the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS), Focus: HOPE, Michigan Office of Child Support, Child Support Initiative Parenting of the Children’s Center. and the Jury Services department of the Third Circuit Court.
