    Yellowstone’s Luke Grimes Reveals Why He Had “A Hard Time” on the Set of Season 5 Part 2

    Returning to the set of Yellowstone without Kevin Costner was certainly a challenge for the rest of the cast, but this, plus a two-year gap between seasons, meant that Luke Grimes found it difficult to return to the character at first.

    latest yellow stone The episode aired in January 2023, meaning it has been almost two years since the western drama hit screens. That’s even longer for him. Yellowstone castwho returned to the Dutton ranch earlier this year to film the final six episodes of the show.

    Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton in the Taylor Sheridan Seriesrevealed how it felt to put those cowboy boots back on after such a long hiatus. Needless to say, it wasn’t easy.

    “I was having a hard time concentrating again.” he said (via Variety). “I’ve been playing this guy for a long time, but a two-year hiatus… It’s hard to find the nuance again.”

    As he described, it was reading the script for the final episode that helped him find Kayce once again.

    “Part of the way I did it was I waited until the last minute to read the last episode,” he explained. “I had a feeling that was going to be the thing to get me hooked again and it worked: I read the final episode and I was a mess. But then I felt: ‘Now I remember who he is!’”

    It’s not just her own absence that Grimes had to deal with. Kevin CostnerThe show’s departure became the defining talking point of the final installment and then led to the show’s early conclusion entirely.

    When it was time to return to the set without Costner at the helm, Grimes said (via People): “The fact that he didn’t come back was like, ‘Okay, we’re going to have to land this plane now for real.’

    “I think the departure of the patriarch was always going to be part of the story. It was always that way, what are these kids doing? What does this family do when their rock runs out?

    “Whatever the circumstances, I definitely felt like, ‘Okay, let’s land.’ “It definitely felt different.”

    Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 returns November 10 on Paramount Network.
