Giuntoli confirms Juventus’ intentions to get rid of Pogba

Juventus football director Cristiano Giuntoli is closing the door on a possible return of Paul Pogba to the squad and insists the club has moved on as he explains the reasons behind the decision.

The Frenchman has been suspended for failing a doping test. That is why he has been out of action since September 2023. He was initially given a four-year ban, but that was recently reduced to 18 months, allowing him to return to the field in March 2025.

The 2018 World Cup winner did just that declared his intention to play for Juventus againas he remains under contract until 2026. Nevertheless, several sources emphasized that the writing is on the wall for the midfielder, as Juventus is already negotiating contract termination with its agents and lawyers.

Giuntoli confirmed the news while speaking to the press ahead of Juve’s match against Lazio on Saturday evening. He even refers to the player in the past tense.

“Our position is clear. Pogba was a great player, but he has been out for a long time,” the Juventus football director explained in his interview with Skysport Italy via IlBianconero.

“We were forced to invest in others and the selection is currently complete.”

The Bianconeri already have six midfielders competing for three starting places in the form of Teun Koopmeiners, Weston McKennie, Manuel Locatelli, Nicolo Fagioli, Khephren Thuram and Douglas Luiz.

The management hopes to reach an amicable agreement with Pogba’s entourage, and will probably find one eventually. And even if both parties fail agree on the termination of the contractJuventus can unilaterally terminate the contract as the player has been out of action for over a year after failing an anti-doping test.

It’s safe to say, then, that Pogba’s disastrous second spell in Turin is all but over.
