Tragic suicide of 28-year-old after remarriage to violent ex-husband | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: A 28-year-old woman, married to a man from Ghuma, committed suicide on the night of October 13 after alleged intimidation by her husband and stepmother. The Bopal police filed a case against the suspect on Saturday. The woman’s father, 54, who works in a private company, stated in his FIR that she married a man from Ghuma in 2019.
About six months after their marriage, she started complaining that her husband was drinking and forcing her to cook non-vegetarian food. When she objected to the harassment, he hit her, according to the FIR. The complainant said that his son-in-law always demanded money for his expenses, and that he often complied with this demand for the sake of his daughter’s peace. Despite this, he would beat her up over petty arguments, the FIR states.
The man alleged that his daughter’s mother-in-law also subjected her to violence. The FIR states that every time the woman returned to her maternal home in Surat due to these marital problems, the husband would declare in writing on a notarized document that he would not hit her.
The complainant said his daughter divorced her husband on November 6, 2022. However, her father-in-law and other community elders intervened and arranged for them to reconcile, and they moved in together a few months after their divorce.
She then joined a private company as a sales manager and her husband started harassing her again.
On the evening of October 13, she called her mother via WhatsApp and said her husband was hitting her again. However, her mother’s subsequent calls went unanswered.
On the night of October 13, one of their relatives called the complainant and told him that his daughter had hanged herself.
Bopal police registered a complaint of dowry death and subjecting a woman to brutality under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and started an investigation.
