Sierra Vista City Council Member Gregory Johnson Dies at 78

TUCSON, Arizona (13 news) – Sierra Vista City Council member Gregory Johnson passed away on Wednesday, November 6 at the age of 78. Johnson served on the City Council since January 1, 2021.

Johnson was a United States Marine Corps veteran, businessman, lawyer, professor, hearing officer, and public official. Before running for City Council, he served on several tourism and hospitality boards, chamber of commerce boards, and zoning and economic development commissions.

Johnson was a strong advocate for fiscal responsibility, but he also believed in the need to make strategic investments in our community that would help stimulate economic growth. He was outspoken and passionate about the causes he believed in and steadfast in his commitment to our residents.

“Our prayers are with Councilmember Johnson’s wife, Suzanne, and the rest of his family during this difficult time,” says Mayor Clea McCaa. “We appreciate you sharing your time and talents with us. “He was a dedicated public servant and his work will continue to impact the City long after his passing.”

Since Councilman Johnson did not seek re-election and his seat will be filled on January 1, 2025, the Sierra Vista City Council will not name a replacement in the meantime.
