The death of a four-month-old baby in a village is being treated as ‘inexplicable’.

The toddler was discovered in Clynderwen, Pembrokeshire, Wales on Friday after emergency services were alerted.

Officers attended the scene at around 1.45pm following a call from Wales Ambulance Service Trust regarding the welfare of a baby.

The child died on the spot.

Now two people have been arrested following the tragedy.

A 19-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect.

Both have been released on bail pending further inquiries, Dyfed-Powys Police said.

Police said: ‘The baby’s death is being treated as unexplained.’

It says people living in the Clynderweven area ‘will see an increased police presence in the coming days’.

Residents have brought flowers and toys in tribute to the little boy, with one resident saying: ‘Everyone is in shock.’

The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Pembrokeshire Herald: “It’s heartbreaking. Everyone here is in shock and our thoughts are with the child’s family. We hope that the police can get to the bottom of what happened.’
