Israeli President Herzog criticized the clashes in Amsterdam during a Europa League soccer match on Friday, comparing the “violent images” to a Hamas attack.

Israeli soccer enthusiasts reportedly quarreled with apparent pro-Palestinian Supporters before and during a Europa League match in Amsterdam between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax.

On Thursday night, Alleged fights broke out outside John Cruyff Arenathe largest stadium in the city and home ground of Ajax Amsterdam. Ajax reportedly won the match 5-0 after leading 3-0 at half-time.

Following the skirmishes, Israel’s Foreign Ministry reported that 10 Israelis were wounded and two were “missing,” while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated that the planes be sent closely to return to its residents.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog denounced clashes and stated that the “shocking images” of violence were quite similar to those of October 7. Hamas attack from 2023.

The report further states that a “large number” of mobile units and reinforcements were brought in due to the countless conflicts and acts of vandalism that allegedly took place in the city centre.

Nearly 57 people were detained after the match because pro-Palestinian protesters tried to enter the stadium despite the city’s protest bans.

“This morning, we are horrified by the shocking images and videos that we hoped would never be seen again since October 7: an anti-Semitic pogrom against Israeli citizens and Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters in the center of Amsterdam, Netherlands,” Herzog wrote in a statement about X.

The next european league The match is scheduled for November 28, against a Turkish club in Istanbul. However, due to a decision by the Turkish authorities, the match will be played on a “neutral avenue.”

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock expressed shock and disgust at the scenes in Amsterdam.

“The images from Amsterdam are horrible and deeply shameful for us in Europe,” Baerbock wrote in a post on X. “The outbreak of such violence against Jews breaks all borders. There is no justification for this.”

He stressed that Jews must be able to feel safe in Europe.
