Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana has claimed that the players want interim manager and legend Ruud van Nistelrooy to remain at the club despite the imminent arrival of Ruben Amorim. Van Nistelrooy, who joined as assistant coach in the summer, temporarily took over as coach after the dismissal of Erik ten Hag in October.

Since then, the former striker has seen a change in United’s fortunes, having won 2 matches and drawn one under his management. The last victory came in the Europa League, when they beat PAOK 2-0. on Thursday, November 7. Van Nistelrooy’s future is up in the air at the moment, Amorim will take office starting November 11.

After Thursday’s victory, Onana praised the former Dutch striker as a very good coach and said he gives a lot of advice to the players. The goalkeeper stated that the United squad is happy with Van Nistelrooy in charge but admitted that the final decision will be in the hands of the club.

“100%. He’s a very good guy, a very good coach.”

“He has a lot of experience and advises us a lot.”

“What he is doing is fantastic and the players are happy. But at the end of the day, it is not something we can decide. The club makes the decision and we have to accept it,” Onana said.

Van Nistelrooy does not think about the future

Van Nistelrooy would say he is currently busy preparing his team for his final game as interim manager. The United legend said he is not thinking too much about his future with the club.

“I’m just busy with one thing on my mind.”
