WI vs ENG: Alzarri Joseph received a 2-match ban after a fight with Shai Hope on the field

The West Indies cricket board has announced that pacer Alzarri Joseph has been suspended for 2 matches following his on-field dispute with captain Shai Hope during the third ODI against England on Wednesday, November 6. The incident caused Joseph to react angrily and leave the field after taking the wicket of Jordan Cox during the match.

It seemed like the pacer was not happy with the setup of the field. and clearly showed his disappointment. Joseph then proceeded to have a heated exchange with Hope after Cox’s dismissal and proceeded to walk off the field. Joseph’s actions were criticized by coach Daren Sammy, who said he would have strong words with the pacer. The West Indies would end up winning the match in the end.but the Joseph incident would overshadow the series victory.

Cricket West Indies issued a statement on Friday 8 November revealing that a 2-game ban had been imposed on them and that the incident was reviewed in consultation with the senior team coaching staff.

“Cricket West Indies (CWI) has imposed a two-match suspension on fast bowler Alzarri Joseph following an on-field incident during the 3rd CG United ODI at the Kensington Oval, Barbados. As part of CWI’s ongoing commitment to maintain the highest levels of professionalism and integrity in the game, the incident, which involved conduct that did not meet CWI standards of professionalism, was reviewed in consultation with the senior men’s coaching staff,” read in the statement.

‘Passion took over me’

Joseph would comment on the decision and said that the incident happened because his passion got the better of him in the end. The pacer said he personally apologized to Hope, the team and management and stated that he was deeply sorry for the disappointment he had caused.

“I recognize that my passion got the better of me,” Joseph said.

“I have personally apologized to Captain Shai Hope, my teammates and management. I also extend my sincere apologies to the West Indies fans; I understand that even a brief error of judgment can have a far-reaching impact, and “I am deeply sorry for any disappointment caused.”
