Man charged with drunk driving after crashing into state police cruiser in Westbrook, troopers say

WESTBROOK, CT (WFSB) – A man faces charges of operating under the influence after state police say he crashed into one of their cruisers on Interstate 95 in Westbrook.

They identified the driver as Alvaro Partillo, 32, of New London.

Troopers said that on Wednesday around 8 pm they were conducting traffic control in the area of ​​I-95 north between exits 65 and 66 in Westbrook.

A police officer initiated a traffic stop on a driver.

While the police officer slowed to a stop and stopped on the right shoulder of the road, another driver did not slow down and pulled over. He struck the rear of the patrol car, state police said.

The officer was sitting in the front driver’s seat of the vehicle and suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. The police officer was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The driver of that separate vehicle was identified as Partillo.

State police said Partillo failed a standardized field sobriety test after determining that he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

He was charged with unlawful operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, following too closely, failure to slow or move and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Partillo’s bail was set at $15,000.

He was scheduled to appear before a judge Thursday in Middletown.
