Schools canceled and roads closed due to flooding in several South Carolina counties

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – Some schools have been delayed while others have been canceled, along with several road closures in Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg and Orangeburg counties due to heavy flooding, according to officials.

FEMA aid now includes Wilkes County and child care

Aiken County

Aiken County Public School District officials announced that due to heavy rains that flooded, washed out and caused road closures across the county, schools and offices will operate on a two-hour delayed schedule, Thursday, July 7. November.

Due to the delayed start, only lunch will be served in our cafeterias tomorrow. Students on half-day schedules, including Early Learning Special Education students and others, will not come to school Thursday as buses will not be able to run midday routes, officials say.

The Aiken County Career Center will not have morning classes. Students will report to their high school two hours late. According to the district, rainfall is expected throughout the day.

Use extreme caution when traveling to school and work. If you encounter flooded roads, turn around, officials advise.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety closed the following roads:

  • Whiskey Road from Knox Avenue to Grace Avenue
  • Intersection of University Parkway and Vaucluse Road
  • Price Avenue between Whiskey Road and Two Notch

Authorities urge motorists to seek alternative routes and avoid these areas until further notice.

Best Friend Express transit buses will also be delayed for two hours on November 7 due to flooding.

Allendale County

Allendale County School District officials announced that due to the forecast of heavy rain during the afternoon, all after-school events and activities will be canceled on Thursday, November 7.

Officials ask that you make arrangements to have your child picked up promptly at the regular dismissal time.

Bamberg County

Due to worsening road conditions, all Bamberg County schools will move to an e-learning day on Thursday, officials say.

Students should follow their remote learning plans and log in as directed by their teachers. Additionally, all extracurricular programs and activities are canceled for today.

Orangeburg County

At 8:30 a.m., Orangeburg County School District officials announced that due to current weather conditions, difficult roads, and the condition of some school buildings, all Orangeburg County School District schools will be closed on Thursday. .

“This decision was made with the safety and well-being of our students and staff as the top priority,” officials said.

Around 7 a.m., officials initially announced, due to heavy rain and difficult road conditions in our area, all Orangeburg County School District schools will operate on a three-hour delay.

Orangeburg County Emergency Operations Center officials said the county is experiencing flash flooding in parts of central and western Orangeburg County and several roads are closed.

Flash flooding is occurring in many areas. Limit travel and use extreme caution, officials urge.
