Sam Claflin made his first public appearance since reports emerged that he has split from his girlfriend of two years, Cassia Amato.

The actor, 38, joined the cast of The Count Of Monte Cristo at the Rome Film Festival photocall ahead of the premiere on Saturday.

Sam takes on the role of young sailor Edmond Dantès in the eight-part television series expected to be released later this year.

The Hollywood star put his personal life aside as he posed for photos alongside Jeremy Irons, Gabriella Pession, Karla-Simone Spence and Michele Riondino.

The Count of Monte Cristo is an adaptation of Alexander Dumas’ story of the same name, which follows the story of a young man who is wrongly imprisoned by his jealous ‘friend’.

Dantes, a sailor, is falsely accused of treason by his best friend Fernand, who wants Dantes’ girlfriend Mercedes for himself.

Dantes is imprisoned for thirteen years on the island prison of Chateau d’If, where he plots revenge on those who betrayed him.

With the help of another prisoner, he escapes the island and transforms himself into the wealthy Count of Monte Cristo as part of his plan for revenge.

The series will premiere at the 19th Rome Film Festival.

A film adaptation of the book premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

Earlier this week it was reported that Sam has ended his relationship with model Cassia, 30, with sources blaming their busy schedules and long distance for the end of their romance.

A source also told The Sun that Sam, best known for his roles in The Hunger Games and Peaky Blinders, is looking for love again.

“It was his first real relationship after splitting from his wife Laura Haddock and they had a lot of fun together,” the source said.
