Charyn confirms his class as he takes out Facteur Cheval in Queen Elizabeth II Stakes

Charyn capped a fantastic season by beating French challenger Facteur Cheval and winning the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes under Silvestre de Sousa.

The Roger Varian-trained four-year-old justified 13-8 favoritism to record his third Group 1 win of the year.

The son of Dark Angel showed signs of significant progress from three to four when he secured the Listed Doncaster Mile Stakes in March, the first time he was ridden by De Sousa.

The pair followed in the Group 2 bet365 Mile at Sandown before chasing Audience in the Lockinge Stakes. A breakthrough at the highest level came in the Queen Anne Stakes and a return to the same track and journey as that Royal Ascot success produced the same result under De Sousa.

Fateur Cheval, who chased French raider Big Rock in this race twelve months ago, filled the same second place ahead of Maxime Guyon and Jerome Reynier.

One of Charyn’s two defeats in six starts this season before the QEII came when he failed to make up ground on leaders Tribalist at the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp last month.

However, Nurlan Bizakov’s grey, who also won the Prix Jacques le Marois of Deauville in August, emphatically confirmed that he was the star of the season with his victory by two lengths.

“He is now the finished article,” Varian told ITV Racing. “He’s fully developed, he’s definitely at his peak. Hasn’t he been great all year? I am happy for Nurlan Bizakov and his team at home. It is a great result.”
