Gomulira villagers demand government intervention in questionable Lin land occupation – Malawi Nyasa Times

In a dramatic turn of events, the daughter of Lin Yunhua, a Chinese wildlife convict, has allegedly become the center of attention to process the formal registration of her father’s controversial large plot of land which he dubiously acquired from the village without the knowledge of the chiefs of the Gumulira village chief in Lumbazi, Lilongwe. .

Chiefs and villagers have since demanded the government intervene in Lin’s dubious occupation of dambo land, claiming that the loss of the land has deprived them of economic opportunities, fueled hunger and theft among the people.

Chief Gumulira, his deputy Japhet Chimpeni and other villagers told reporters on Wednesday that Lin, who is also facing corruption allegations, dubiously purchased the dambo land that was used as a source of income for the people of the village.

They said Lin occupied the land for his cattle ranch while behind the scenes he turned it into a base for his illegal wildlife criminal activities.

The chief and others said people used the land to grow crops, feed livestock, mine sand, mold bricks and sell them to companies and use the money to meet their basic needs, including their children’s school fees.

“He illegally occupied the land and established his farm without our knowledge as chiefs, and hired a chief from another village to issue him ownership documents. He later appointed the same boss as supervisor of his farm during the period he would be in prison.

“Even officials at the Ministry of Lands were shocked last year at how he occupied this large land in question and continued to illegally occupy more of the villagers’ land even if he was in prison,” Gumulira said.

He said Lands Ministry officials came to investigate the matter last year following media reports about land issues between the chiefs and Lin, and gave people hope they would intervene.

He said that while they had been anticipating the ministry’s intervention in the matter, the villagers are surprised that a self-proclaimed daughter of Lin has recently been facilitating the formal registration of the land.

“We have seen her come to the farm in the company of Lin’s employees and inspect the prices of dubious land purchased by her father from the villagers through her father’s agents.

“Her father’s agents accompanying her have told us that she has gone to the Ministry of Lands and the village group head, Chinoko Kawenga, to help her process the formal land registration, and they have warned us not to speak “. Gumulira and Chimpeni revealed.

In a telephone interview, Kawenga, the highly accused leader of the group, demanded that journalists confront him personally at his home and cut the line.

Efforts to speak to the Ministry of Lands and Lin’s alleged daughter proved futile.

Lin, who is serving his long prison sentence in one of the country’s prisons, is also facing accusations of corruption for attempting to bribe a high court judge to give him a short sentence.

He faces deportation shortly after completing his prison sentence.
