El Paso City Council races head to runoffs, voters will decide Dec. 14

Several El Paso City Council seats are headed to a runoff as neither candidate was able to obtain the 50 percent of the votes needed to win their seats outright.

In the race for Municipal Representative for District 1:

After four candidates hoped to represent the west side and upper El Paso Valley, Alejandra Chávez and Mónica Reyes will now face each other in a runoff.

For District 3:

Four candidates were competing to represent East El Paso and the Lower Valley, but now only José Rodríguez and Deanna Maldonado-Rocha will continue to face each other in a runoff.

District 4:

Incumbent Northeast El Paso Rep. Joe Molinar faced three challengers for the first time, but after Tuesday, Molinar will now only face Cynthia Boyar-Trejo.

District 5:

Ivan Niño and Amanda Cunningham will face off in a runoff to represent east and far east El Paso.

The second round of elections will take place on December 14.
