“That Galeano kid was great with the ball,” Hamilton said. “We tried to have a first and a second defender every time they could touch the ball. Technically they were a little stronger than us and collectively they were very fast and any small mistakes we made they were able to take advantage of. That’s what good teams do.”

Concluding the Express championship season

Elmira finished with a 12-6 record after beating Ithaca 1-0 in Saturday’s Section 4 final for the first sectional championship in the program’s 14-season history.

“A great group of kids that have been playing together for a long time and are used to supporting each other and winning games,” Hamilton said. “It’s also a very young team. We only have four seniors. We return 18 of the 22 players who left tonight. We look really strong for the future and this is something we’ve been building on for a few years.”
