Scarsdale thwarts Express’ comeback bid in NYSPHSAA Class AAA subregional

The Express, playing in its first game of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association tournament, fell into a 3-0 hole before Luca Capilli’s 45-yard shot on a free throw near The band will pass just over the goalkeeper’s hands and into the back of the net.

Concluding the Express championship season

Elmira finished with a 12-6 record after beating Ithaca 1-0 in Saturday’s Section 4 final for the first sectional championship in the program’s 14-season history.

“A great group of kids that have been playing together for a long time and are used to supporting each other and winning games,” Hamilton said. “It’s also a very young team. We only have four seniors. We return 18 of the 22 players who left tonight. We look really strong for the future and this is something we’ve been building on for a few years.”

Scarsdale (16-2-1) will face Section 9 champion Monroe-Woodbury in the regional final at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at Marlboro High School.
