Members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal staged a protest in front of the Canadian embassy in Prabhadevi condemning the attack on Hindus in Canada. Hindu activists demanded the Canadian government to take strict action against Khalistani elements and ensure protection to Hindu communities.

On Wednesday, members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, a right-wing Hindu organization, and its youth wing Bajrang Dal staged a protest outside the Canadian embassy to condemn recent cases of attacks on Hindus in Canada. These cases include an attack on a Hindu temple near Toronto and violent riots at a consular camp in Brampton.

Protesters gathered outside the One International Center in Prabhadevi, where the Consulate General of Canada in India office is located in Mumbai. Holding banners opposing Khalistan and calling for unity between the Hindu and Sikh communities, Hindu activists protested against the Canadian government’s inefficiency in protecting Hindus by reciting the Hanuman Chalisa.

Shriraj Nair, spokesperson and joint secretary of VHP Mumbai, said: “The Hindu community has a positive contribution to the Canadian economy, while the crime rate among Hindu communities has been negligible. Hindus and Sikhs have always remained united, but some fringe Khalistani elements backed by anti-India forces like ISIS are hatching a conspiracy against Hindus. “They have been brainwashed to harm the Hindu community and the recent attack on the Hindu temple where people were praying on the occasion of Diwali was unacceptable.”

However, VHP and Bajrang Dal said they are not against the Canadian government and demanded strict action against the people involved in the recent attacks. They also demanded protection for Hindu communities so that they can practice their faith safely. Amid an intense police crackdown, including riot force to prevent protesters from entering the Canadian embassy, protesters were detained by police after their demonstration.

“We have no opposition against the Canadian government as Canada and India have always maintained friendly relations. We request the Canadian government and administration to put an end to such cases immediately. Even the police, who have so far been unable to curb this violence, should take immediate action against these fringe elements,” Nair added.
