A mother said she fears for her six-year-old son’s health after living in a house “full of mold and damp” for five years. Nicola Lee says that from the day she and her son moved into her house in walton she has had “nothing but trouble.”

She said the situation is now so bad that her son George is suffering from “vomiting, high temperatures and constant coughing” and that she is not feeling well either. Nicola said she has repeatedly contacted housing association Onward, which owns the building, about the issues, but feels they are not taking it seriously enough.

Nicola claims the work carried out by the housing provider’s repair contractor, Axis Europe, is not good enough and has not resolved the problems. Onward apologized to Nicola for any inconvenience caused and said it wanted to “reassure” her that it will ensure she is satisfied with the repairs being carried out.

The housing provider said that following an inspection on November 1, a damp spot was found in the living room of the property and some issues were found with the gasket, which will be repaired on November 11.

Nicola, 47 years old, said the ECHO: “I moved here five years ago, when my little one had just turned one. I started finding moisture and mold everywhere and called Onward. Your idea for grading it is to wash the walls or chip a little and put some plaster on top.

“It’s so bad that it’s under the floorboards in the living room, so the carpet stinks. As soon as you walk in the house, you can smell it, and my little one has to sit on this carpet. It’s been seven weeks now.” that is discomfort of all kinds. We have had visits to the doctor, two batches of antibiotics each.

“A few weeks ago, I moved into the back bedroom and gave my little one the front bedroom and made it all nice for him. Since the day I moved into the back bedroom, I have been very sick.

“I moved my pillows and found mold all over the wall, all over the bed, and all the pillows. My little one was throwing up all weekend, so I went to change his bed. I moved his mattress and found mold everywhere. on the base of the bed and especially the mattress, I had to order him a completely new bed.

Nicola added: “Nothing is being done, no one is helping me get out of this house and it is absolutely disgusting what my little one and I have to live through.

“My child has had a fever, a constant cough for seven weeks and vomiting. I have had a lot of chest pain, a very bad cough, a very bad nose, my breathing has been affecting me and I have heart palpitations.

“I keep asking the doctor if they think all the moisture and mold could be causing our illness and they say yes. What I’ve had these last few weeks, I’ve never had before in my life. I’ve been so, so sick.” .

An Onward spokesperson said: “Ms Lee has previously informed us of her concerns about mold in her home and we have completed repairs to address it. After we became aware of further problems, we visited her home on November 1 and We carry out an inspection to understand what repairs need to be made.

“We found a damp spot in the room and some problems with the orientation, which we will solve. These repairs will begin on Monday, November 11. During the visit, Ms Lee also raised concerns about the insulation of the loft and the extractor fans in her kitchen and bathroom. We will check them and make any necessary repairs.

“We would like to apologize to Ms Lee for any inconvenience caused and assure her that we will ensure she is satisfied with any repairs carried out. Our teams will also contact her directly to see if she needs any additional support at this time. “We take reports of damp and mold very seriously and urge customers to report any issues to us immediately.”
