Investigation into alleged harassment during Hibiscus completed – FBC News

The independent investigation into allegations of harassment during the crowing night of Hibiscus Carnival has been completed and submitted to the Ministry of Local Government for review.

It is claimed that a participant in the Hibiscus Festival was inappropriately touched on the night of the coronation.

An official complaint has also been filed with the police about this.

Minister of Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, confirmed that the investigation ensured that all relevant parties, including committee members and witnesses, were interviewed in accordance with municipal policy.

He said the investigation was conducted by an independent panel consisting of the president of the Suva Municipal Council, an independent legal expert, an external specialist in event management and public safety, and a representative of an organization that advocates human rights or gender-based violence .

Nalumia said they are committed to ensuring that the investigation is conducted impartially, transparently and professionally, in full compliance with all legal and regulatory standards.

He adds that a separate police investigation is underway and the ministry will cooperate fully with law enforcement during the process.
