Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has named the three players that new manager Rubén Amorim will add to his squad once he takes over the club.

Amorim will take charge of the Red Devils on November 11 after being named as Erik ten Hag’s replacement.

The Portuguese has favored a 3-4-3 system for most of his coaching career.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Owen said he expects Amorim to implement that formation and choose players like Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martínez and Leny Yoro as his back three because they are aggressive.

“I think it’s an important position for Ruben Amorim,” Owen said.

“Amorim has a reputation for bringing the central defender into midfield a little bit, so the player must have good ball handling.

“De Ligt and Martínez are aggressive defenders, they like to take on the forwards, so the central player has to be good on the ball and Yoro fits the bill.

“I think if everyone is fit, I would pick all three defenders.”
