Club Brugge vs Aston Villa Predictions

Aston Villa fans could not have dreamed of a better start to the club’s first Champions League campaign since 1982/83.

Victories over Young Boys, Bayern Munich and Bologna put Villa at the top of the league stage after three rounds of matches. Liverpool are the only other team with maximum points under their belt so far.

There is now a genuine belief at Villa Park that Unai Emery’s men can qualify directly for the last 16 by finishing in the top eight of the table.

There are still some tough games on the horizon for Villa, including a home clash against Juventus later this month. But Emery’s team is ahead of schedule and no one will like to face them in the future.

However, Villa haven’t had much to be happy about in the Premier League lately. The 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur was only their second of the season, but Emery’s charges have won just one of their last five top-flight games and are now sixth in the table.

As many predicted, there are some signs that Villa are struggling to balance their domestic and continental commitments.

It is not necessarily a question of physical fatigue. In fact, it could be more of a mental problem. After such positive moments as the 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich, it is difficult to prepare for an ordinary Premier League match a few days later. Villa played out a boring goalless draw with Manchester United after that famous victory against the German giants.

No member of Villa’s fan base would be disappointed if Emery ultimately opted to devote the majority of his attention to Europe. There’s no point in investing so much effort into qualifying for the Champions League and then not giving it a proper try when you’re there.

The concern for Villa is that his form is difficult to turn on and off like a tap, so his recent disappointing performances in the Premier League could have a knock-on effect in Europe. Emery and his players will try to prove that this is not the case when they face Club Brugge on Wednesday.

Betting Tips for Club Brugge vs Aston Villa

Can Aston Villa make it four wins out of four in the Champions League when they take on Club Brugge?

Aston Villa wins

Club Brugge will not be anywhere close to finishing in the top eight of the Champions League, but hopes to be in the fight for the play-offs of the knockout phase (for which finishing between ninth and 24th is required).

Brugge were defeated 3-0 by Borussia Dortmund on matchday one, after which they beat Sturm Graz 1-0. In their last European match they lost 3-1 against AC Milan.

With Juventus and Manchester City set to be the opposition on matchdays seven and eight, Brugge could do with getting more points on the board sooner rather than later.

In our opinion, it is unlikely that they will achieve anything against Aston Villa in one of the first matches on Wednesday.

Emery’s team can maintain their 100 percent record in the Champions League if they emerge triumphant at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

Aston Villa clean sheet

Although it is one of the strongest teams in Belgium, Club Brugge is not the team that scores the most goals.

Despite being second in the standings at the time of writing, they are the lowest scorers in the top four of the Belgian Pro League.

Meanwhile, in the Champions League, only six teams have scored fewer times than Brugge, who have two goals to their name.

After watching his team concede four goals to Tottenham at the weekend, Emery will be eager to get back to basics against Brugge.

Expect a measured and defensively strong performance from Aston Villa in this one.

Tip for Aston Villa to keep a clean sheet at 9/4 with bet365

Morgan Rogers will score at any time

Morgan Rogers opened the scoring for Aston Villa against Tottenham. They have scored in their last three away games in the Premier League, which bodes well for this trip to Belgium.

Rogers has become a key player for Villa this season. He already was to an extent last season, but the former Middlesbrough player has already made more starts in 2024/25 than in 2023/24, when he moved to Villa in January.

The attacking midfielder occupies good scoring positions and is a great finisher in front of goal.

Last week it was reported that Rogers is in talks with the club over a contract extension, which will be music to the ears of Villa fans.

Don’t be surprised if Rogers puts his name back on the scoresheet Wednesday.
