An Islamic conference was held today (November 5) at the capital’s historic Suhrawardy Udyan, where Islamic leaders put forward a nine-point demand, including justice for the Shapla Chattar murders in 2013 and withdrawal of all cases in their against.

Hundreds of thousands of Islamic leaders and their followers converged there for a mass rally aimed at strengthening Islamic teachings and unity.

The event, which attracted a large number of madrasa teachers and students from across the country, began at 9 a.m. and ended at 1:30 p.m.

Organized by Ulama Mashayekh Bangladesh, the rally has brought together Islamic leaders and scholars from across the country to discuss various issues, including the ongoing debate within the Islamic community over Tablighi Jamaat and its activities in the country.

Supporters of the late Maulana Zubair ul Hassan organized this rally in opposition to Maulana Muhammad Saad Al Kandhalvi of Delhi, a prominent figure of the Tablighi Jamaat.

Speaking at the event, Islamic leaders emphasized unity within the Muslim community and called for strict adherence to Islamic principles.

They demanded that Bishwa Ijtema be held once and not in two phases. They also demanded that the grounds of Ijtema and the Kakrail mosque be kept free from the influence of those who deviate from the main Islamic teachings, mainly the followers of Maulana Saad Al Kandhalvi.

They also demanded justice for the recent attack on innocent students by supporters of Saad Kandhalvi at the Tongi Ijtema headquarters and prevention of entry of self-proclaimed Amir Saad into Bangladesh.

Their other demands are to restrict the entry of Saad supporters into the Kakrail mosque and to officially declare the Qadianis as non-Muslims in Bangladesh.

The Bishwa Ijtema, one of the largest Muslim gatherings in the world, will be held in two phases in 2025 like previous years. The first phase will be held from January 31 to February 2 on the banks of the Turag River in Tongi, and the second phase from February 7 to 9.

Shah Mohammad Mohibullah Babunagari led the prayers after the event.
