“A big part of being an artist, at least in my opinion, is having the grace to get into a character or a role and then release it when you’re done with it,” he continued. “I think a big part of the next phase of my artistry is recognizing when it’s time to release the role, and my decision not to want to make those visits is part of that.”

Chavez and Koch skyrocketed to stardom after playing the Menéndez brothers Ryan Murphy‘S Monsters series. Episodes 4 and 5 received critical acclaim and praise from fans for introducing Erik and Lyle’s claims that they killed their parents in self-defense after years of alleged physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. However, the show received backlash for several inaccuracies about the Menéndez brothers, including the insinuation that they had a sexual relationship.

Erik made it clear that he was not happy to hear how he and Lyle were being characterized.

“It is sad for me to know that Netflix’s unfair portrayal of the tragedies surrounding our crime has taken the painful truths several steps backwards – back in time to an era when the prosecution built a narrative based on a belief system that men were not sexually abused. and that men experienced rape trauma differently than women,” Erik’s statement continued. “These terrible lies have been disrupted and exposed over the past twenty years by countless courageous victims who have broken through their personal shame and courageously spoken out. “So now Murphy shapes his terrible story through vile and disgusting character portraits of Lyle and me and disheartening smears. Isn’t the truth enough?”
