Hamas confirmed the assassination of its leader Yahya Sinwar in a statement issued on Friday, October 18, 2024.

According to Al Jazeera, a day after Israeli forces claimed they had killed the head of Hamas in the southern Gaza Strip, the resistance movement confirmed Sinwar’s death.

The head of Hamas in Gaza, Khalil Hayya, announced Yahya’s “martyrdom” in a televised speech, calling him a “steadfast, courageous and fearless” leader who “sacrificed his life in the cause of our liberation.”

He told Hamas-affiliated Al-Aqsa TV: “He met his end standing bravely, with his head held high, holding his firearm, shooting until the last breath, until the last moment of his life.”

Hayya added: “Since his early days he was involved in his struggle as a resistance fighter. He stood defiantly behind Israeli bars and after his release in an exchange deal he continued his fight and his dedication to the cause.”
