The Craven County Board of Education is expected to see changes as two members are replaced, and District 7 and 5 school board candidates are still awaiting final results.

In District 5, Republican candidate Darlene Gibbs currently holds a lead of just over 100 votes against Democratic candidate Michelle Fisher. Gibbs expressed gratitude for the support he received during the election process.

“Transparency for parents and staff, just so the people of Havelock and the county have a better understanding of what the board of education is working on,” Gibbs said. “Being more open and more public with the issues we’re facing and the things we’re trying to decide and improve for the county.”

Polls in Havelock saw a high turnout, leading to long queues and a delay in the final count. It is not yet clear when the final results will be available.
