Jason Kelce apologizes for incident with fan who insulted his brother

Jason Kelce apologized for an incident that occurred before the Ohio State-Penn State game over the weekend.

TO viral video on social networks showed the former Eagles center grabbing an unruly fan’s phone and pinning it to the ground.

Kelce, who retired after last seasonaddressed the incident during the pregame of ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” show.

“I think everyone has seen on social media what happened this week,” Kelce said. “Listen, I’m not happy with anything that happened. I’m not proud of it. In a heated moment I chose to greet hate with hate, and I just don’t think that’s a productive thing to do, I really don’t. I don’t think it leads to discourse and it’s the right way to approach things. At that moment I fell to a level that I shouldn’t have.

“The bottom line is that I try to live my life by the golden rule. That’s what I’ve always been taught. “I try to treat people with common decency and respect, and I will continue to do so in the future.”

The elder Kelce was at Beaver Stadium attending the Big Ten showdown. The viral video showed some fans asking for photos, fist-bumping and high-fiving.

But when one started booing him and yelling an anti-gay slur directed at his brother, Travis, regarding his relationship with Taylor Swift, Kelce acted.

In addition to smashing the phone, Kelce appeared to use the same anti-gay slur before another fan separated them before the confrontation escalated.

Kelce is in his first season as an NFL analyst for ESPN.
