Davenport man gets 15 years for possession of large stash of meth and ammunition

A Davenport man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for possessing a large amount of methamphetamine.

Richard James Murphy, 42, sold an ounce of meth to a confidential source in August 2023, court documents show. Four days later, police searched his home and found half a pound of meth and ten rounds of ammunition. Murphy was on probation and had previously committed a crime.

After serving his prison sentence, Murphy will serve five years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

Local law enforcement, including police departments in Bettendorf and Davenport and the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, investigated the case.
