Man accused of shooting at police sentenced to 13 years without parole

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A man accused of shooting at police in Shawnee Park in 2022 has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison.

Herbert Lee pleaded guilty Thursday to 20 charges in two cases against him. Police arrested him in July 2022 when officers spotted him at the Dirt Bowl in Shawnee Park.

Lee had multiple arrest warrants out and ran from police. As he ran, he began shooting at the officers, hitting one of them in their protective vest.

Lee was also convicted of deliberately crashing into an ex-girlfriend’s car and, among other things, cashing checks from his late father’s account.

In a separate case, Lee admitted to stealing a gun and then fleeing officers at Mall St. Matthews.

With all this he was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Under the Safer Kentucky Act, he is not eligible for parole or probation.
