Pierce County deputies search for clues after fatal shooting that left 1 dead and 3 injured

Pierce County investigators are trying to locate the person responsible for shooting and killing a 23-year-old man in Puyallup during the weekend.

Three other people were injured but are expected to survive.

The shooting occurred around 12:40 a.m. Early Sunday morning near the corner of 58th Avenue E and 152nd Street E. Responding officers found one victim in a crashed car just down the street, while three others showed up at the hospital.

The burst of gunshots woke up several residents of the area in the middle of the night.

“We were asleep and we heard very sudden firecrackers, and then it was all over. We heard cars speeding up and driving away,” said Chris Alexander, who lives near the scene of the shooting.

“We were sleeping up there, the window was wide open and I got scared. I thought it was just kids and fireworks,” said Davis Vinschreiber, who also lives in the area.

One of the bullets went through Vinschreiber’s fence and hit his house.

“We found this hole in the fence, which led us to walk up here and see that a piece of the siding was missing, and we realized we were like, ‘wow, good thing there was no one down there.’ ” said.

Officers arrived to the area and found a gunshot victim on the ground outside a car that crashed into a ditch on the street near 66th Avenue and 152nd Street.

“His injuries were serious but not life-threatening, and at that point, we were left with no other information,” said Sgt. said Darren Moss, Jr. of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. “And then three more people arrived at hospitals with serious gunshot wounds.”

One of the three victims who showed up at the hospital died from his injuries at just 23 years old. Investigators discovered there was a party on 58th Avenue that the suspects and victims involved in the shooting may have been connected to, but they are still working to learn more about what led up to the shooting.

“We’re assuming this is some kind of party that got out of control or someone came and broke up the party, but again, we need the public’s help to get more information,” said Sgt. Moss said. “We have no suspicious information.”

If you live in the area, investigators are asking residents to check their cameras and upload any video of cars in the area between 12:00 a.m. and 12:55 a.m. early Sunday morning, November 3.

Videos can be submitted through the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department’s online evidence portal.here.
