Supervisor believes the mosque in Birmingham was poorly managed

Following the appointment of an interim manager by the committee, the charity has since put safeguards in place, implemented a “robust” social media policy and updated its accounts, the report said.

Joshua Farbridge, head of compliance visits and inspections at the Charity Commission, confirmed that the investigation had been closed in the expectation that the mosque’s administrators would continue to make the necessary changes.

“Our investigation has identified a number of regulatory concerns and several cases of misconduct and/or mismanagement, but the trustees have taken significant steps to improve the way the charity operates,” he said.

In a statement on Facebook, the Ghamkol Sharif Mosque said it was grateful that the investigation had been completed and thanked the committee for its support.

“It was a thoughtful period during which we can say with certainty that the outcome was beneficial for the charity,” the report said.

It described the investigation as “exhaustive for all involved” and said “a significant number” of concerns had been raised, prompting the investigation to be extended.

“We accept the findings of the investigation and will continue to make improvements in governance, administration and management over the coming period,” it added.
