BATHROOM, New York. (WBNG/Gray News) – A New York man was arrested after allegedly attacking a stranger wearing a “Trump 2024” hat in a supermarket, according to authorities.

Bath Police said officers were dispatched to Tops Friendly Markets on West Morris Street around 10 a.m. for a report of a fight.

Through the investigation, it was determined that Robert Yott, 60, confronted a stranger inside the store after becoming aggressive over a “Trump 2024” hat.

Police said Yott punched the stranger in the mouth and head several times, causing his teeth to break and his mouth to bleed.

Yott did not know the victim and the attack appears to be random, police said.

He was arrested and charged with felony assault and misdemeanor criminal mischief.

Political tensions are high ahead of Election Day on Tuesday, as Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris fight to be named the next president.
