METAIRIE, La. (WVUE) – The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office identified Anthony Pierre Jr, 49, as the man shot to death outside his home in the 1600 block of Colony Road Sunday night.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies received reports of shots fired around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Colony Road and Camphor Street.

Pierre was reportedly shot in his own driveway. Details about the motive and suspects are still unclear.

Neighbors say they were startled when they heard two to four gunshots followed by screams.

Louis and Cathy Shaw, who live a few blocks from the crime scene, say gun violence is rare in the neighborhood.

“No one knows what’s happening. We really don’t know anything, but it’s scary that something like this could happen in your neighborhood,” Cathy Shaw said.

Louis says the couple received notifications of police activity last night via their Ring camera, but didn’t think it would be due to a homicide.

“There’s nothing we can really do about it because if someone wants to kill someone, (you’re) not going to stop them,” he said.
