Tribute to Paul McCartney’s Quincy Jones: ‘Supremely talented’

Paul McCartney remembered the “extremely talented” Quincy Jones in a tribute to the deceased musician and producer shared on Instagram.

“The beloved Quincy Jones passed away and left those of us who knew him sad,” McCartney wrote. “He was supremely talented and I felt privileged to have known him for many years.”

As McCartney noted, his connection with Jones began with Beatles producer, George Martin, who met and befriended Jones in the early sixties. Decades later, McCartney work with jones and michael jackson in Suspenseappearing in the duet “The Girl Is Mine.”

McCartney recalled that Jones “always had a sparkle in his eye and a very positive and loving spirit that infected everyone who knew him.” He highlighted Jones’ “legendary” work with Jackson, as well as all the “other strands of his musical bow.”

He continued: “His long career dates back to the early days when he was a trumpet player, then a band leader, and then a producer of many excellent records. But it’s like a friend who would like to remember him. We always had fun in his presence and his legend will continue through the years, but it is those private moments we were lucky enough to have with this great man that I will always remember fondly. We send our love and solidarity to his family and all his many friends.”

McCartney’s warm tribute to Jones shows there was never any animosity between the two, even after Jones made some shocking and insulting comments about the Beatles and McCartney – “Paul was the worst bass player I’ve ever heard” – in an infamous 2018 interview. with Vulture. jones issued a public apology at the time, and McCartney, in a separate interview with GQ Not long after, he revealed that Jones called him personally and that the two had laughed.

“I love this guy,” McCartney said. “He is totally out of his tree. But the best thing was that he called me after this. I had only heard about it and thought: I’m not sure that’s true. The joke is that I love Quincy, even after this. He’s a crazy son of a bitch… (Jones said) ‘Paul, I didn’t really say that, I don’t know what happened, man. I never said that.
