Auditor confirms most of Linn County non-citizen voting suspects are citizens

Of the more than 2,100 names the Iowa Secretary of State has sent to county election leaders as people who voted in the election after telling the Iowa Department of Transportation they were not U.S. citizens, 150 names are on the lists of Linn County voters.

On Sunday night, Linn County Auditor Joel Miller told Iowa News Now Statehouse reporter Skylar Tallal that he has confirmed through state and federal agencies that 134 of those people are naturalized citizens and are eligible to vote.

“At most, we will challenge 16 people on the list, and only if they voted early absentee or showed up to vote on Election Day.” Pate said.

Johnson County election officials sent a letter to all registered voters on the list alerting them that their vote could be challenged. They urged them to bring proof of citizenship to the polls to avoid having to fill out a provisional ballot.
