Newark police investigate fatal collision

Newark, DE – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred Friday evening in Newark.

The incident took place at around 7.26pm on Friday. An unidentified vehicle was traveling eastbound on East Chestnut Hill Road when it struck a pedestrian walking southbound in the eastbound lanes. After striking the pedestrian, the vehicle fled eastbound on East Chestnut Hill Road.

The victim, a 37-year-old Newark resident, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. He succumbed to these injuries on Monday. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the case. They are appealing to the public for assistance and urging those with information to contact Master Corporal R. Kunicki at (302) 365-8488.

  • New Jersey police identify man arrested for double murder in Virginia

    Evesham Township, NJ – Early Sunday, Evesham Police responded to an incident involving a man who allegedly threatened a homeowner on Kelly Drive. The suspect, Amandeep Singh, was reportedly looking for his estranged wife, leading to an argument and the alleged brandishing of a firearm before fleeing.

    Police began an investigation, in collaboration with the Medford Police Department. Singh was located in Medford, NJ and was arrested without incident. Authorities discovered that Singh was in possession of multiple firearms, including a .40 caliber pistol and an AK47 rifle with high-capacity magazines.

    During the investigation, Prince William County police were contacted to conduct a welfare check at Singh’s residence in Virginia. This resulted in the discovery of two deceased persons, prompting a murder investigation. Singh’s wife was found safe elsewhere in Virginia.

    Singh was taken to a Marlton hospital for treatment unrelated to custody and allegedly assaulted a police officer during his stay. Singh is charged with several crimes in New Jersey and Virginia and is being held in the Burlington County Jail pending a court appearance. Evesham Police continue to seek information about the crime.

  • Baltimore couple arrested for starving death of 5-year-old daughter

    Parents arrested in fatal child abuse case

    **Baltimore, MD** – Baltimore police said the parents of a deceased 5-year-old girl have been arrested. The child, Zona Byrd, died Oct. 14 in the 2200 block of Aiken Street.

    Homicide detectives have arrested the girl’s parents, Bernice Betty Byrd, 32, and Gerald Byrd, 34. They have been charged with first- and second-degree child abuse and child neglect resulting in death.

    After their arrest, the parents were transferred to the Central Booking Intake. Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

    Zona Byrd’s cause of death has not yet been determined. The investigation continues as detectives work to uncover further details.
