In the wake of a serious injury in the game between the New Orleans Saints and the Carolina Panthers, a former Saints receiver attacked quarterback Derek Carr on social media.

Former Saints receiver Michael Thomas lashed out at Carr for endangering receiver Chris Olave after the latter exited the game early with a concussion.

Carr threw the so-called ‘hospital pass’ that took Olave directly into the path of Panthers safety Xavier Woods, who hit the receiver in the neck and shoulders, while also taking a hit from behind cornerback Michael Jackson. Olave was taken off the field after lying motionless for some time.

Thomas posted a series of angry tweets immediately after the hit as Olave was led to the locker room.

“Dude, panic and just throw the ball,” Thomas said in the first of a series of tweets directed at Carr. ‘Get him out of here, he’s such an idiot.’

Another tweet from Thomas read: “Dude tried to lie and say he was jealous that they made Chris WR1 all the time and couldn’t even get a decent ball.” He needs his ass shouted at.

A third tweet read: “They fired all the coaches who were trying to cover up his flaws and he’s still doing the same s**t.”

thomas then he posted a videoapparently from Mexico, with the caption “Even (Mexican flag emoji) knows what’s up.” In the video, a man in a car is heard asking another man what he thinks about Carr, to which the man responded, “I don’t like him…he doesn’t know how to play.”

The final tweet in Thomas’ blitz referenced Davante Adams, who was one of Carr’s receivers when they both played for the Las Vegas Raiders: “That year, his friend (Adams) became the first all-pro team, in 2022 he needed 180 targets just to catch 100 passes.’

After the game, in which the Saints lost 23-22 to the Panthers, Carr addressed Thomas’ attacks and said he was the only teammate he never got along with.

“I’ve had a lot of teammates over the years and he’s the only guy that didn’t get along with me,” Carr said. And I don’t know what I did to him.

‘I don’t know why you feel that way. I’m sorry for whatever you’re facing to make you feel like you have to do that. I don’t know. But he never called me during all this.

‘My phone number has never changed. In fact I have called him on different occasions. Just to try it. And sometimes you can try all you want and it just doesn’t work. And that’s okay, so I don’t know why you feel that way.

Olave was carted off the field in Carolina, but later tweeted, “I’m fine” after the concussion.

‘I didn’t see it. I won’t see it. Because I always ignore everything, the good and the bad. I try to ignore everything. It’s unfortunate. Especially coming from a player like that. But I wish him the best. “I hope he’s part of a team and does what he wants to do and likes.”

Carr added: “It’s something I would never do to a teammate.” Because it was a single stop, the ball went where we were talking and unfortunately Chris got hit in the head.

“That happens in our game and I would never do it on purpose. I didn’t look at it the wrong way. … When it comes to the football aspect, I don’t really have an answer for it. But when it comes to the person, I just hope he gets what he wants.” is looking for.

Carr also told reporters that he feels “sick to my stomach” every time one of his receivers gets hurt.

“(If) what he’s looking for is to blame me for hurting Chris Olave, he can blame me,” Carr said. “It’s not going to change my day.”

‘I get a knot in my stomach every time one of my teammates goes down because I love them so much. It doesn’t matter if I like them or not. And I happen to love Chris Olave. We have a great relationship, so every time that happens I feel sick to my stomach and I hate, I hate, and I don’t use that word a lot, but I hate moments like that.

“So to be clear about that part, I hate that this happens. It makes me sick every time that happens, whether they don’t get up or they get up. I don’t like that. You do your best to never put someone up in that situation.

‘And throughout my career, it hasn’t happened that many times. …I’m sorry I even had to answer these questions. I wish we could have done better. I wish it had never happened. I wish I could have made Mike happier. But it’s hard to do.’

Chris Olave’s brother, Josh Olave, tweeted one of Thomas’ tweets with two ‘100’ emojis. He also responded to a tweet asking if Josh and Chris should have a talk about “is it worth it?”, to which Josh responded, “It’s not worth it in Nola, I’ll tell you that.”

After the incident, Chris Olave took to X, formerly Twitter, and posted: “Thank God, thank you for all the love and prayers, I’ll be fine.”

This is the fourth concussion of Olave’s professional career. The first came in Week 5 of his rookie season while catching a pass from then-quarterback Andy Dalton against the Seattle Seahawks.

Last season, Olave suffered a concussion again on a pass attempt by Carr in Week 12 against the rival Atlanta Falcons.

This year, before Sunday’s game, Olave had already dealt with a concussion after catching a pass from backup quarterback Spencer Rattler against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6.

As for Thomas, he has not been signed by an NFL team since he was released from the Saints after the 2023 season after eight seasons in New Orleans. He was only Carr’s teammate in one of those.

Thomas suffered a season-ending injury in November 2023 after catching a pass from Carr. In January, he went on to say that “a bad ball set him up.”

After winning their first two games of the season, the Saints lost seven in a row, including three games to division rivals. They will look to finally break that losing streak at home when they host another NFC South foe, the Atlanta Falcons.
