Trump holds rally in Kinston two days before Election Day

As Election Day approaches, hard work is being done at the grassroots level for both parties, with many volunteers canvassing houses on Sunday in a final effort to sway potentially undecided voters.

Organizers on both sides said they remain energetic and optimistic heading into Tuesday.

“I think everyone has a good chance of winning, and I think the momentum is there. I think the fact that so many Republicans have come out in North Carolina, even more than in 2020, will help us,” Sandy Joiner said. , who helped campaign in Cary along with other members of the Western Wake Republican Club on Sunday.

Similar efforts were underway nearby for the Harris campaign.

“I want to go beyond just giving, casting my vote. I’m sorry…and that’s why I did the postcards, the phone bank and door-to-door,” said Anagha Kalvade, a Harris volunteer. “Because I feel like on Tuesday I don’t want to regret being able to do a little bit more to talk to people and tell them how important this election is.”

Meanwhile, political experts say the level of attention North Carolina is receiving from both campaigns so close to Election Day is not the norm, even as a swing state.

“It’s not normal,” said Steven Greene, a North Carolina political science professor. “In recent elections, this has been a close state, it has been a must-have state for Republicans and similarly for Democrats. And the electoral map looks as it is, this being a disaster nationally, I think both campaigns feel that this state is essential”.
