Liverpool 2-1 Brighton: Fans’ views

We asked him for his opinion after Saturday’s Premier League match between Liverpool and Brighton.

Here are some of their comments:

Liverpool fans:

Linda: I thought Brighton played very well in both games this week. Liverpool’s attitude and commitment to winning these games was extraordinary – lovely play and energy from everyone involved, playing for and with each other. Slot has made the transition between Klopp’s departure and his arrival seamless. Looking forward to how this season goes. You never know…

Rhys: Slots have made Liverpool so resilient. Gone is the attacking intensity under Klopp and in its place is a calm composure. Even when you are on the defensive, there is no panic. They just stick to the system and work backwards.

Peter: Sloppy first half, but showed grit and determination in the second. I thought Gomez had a great game after replacing Konate and was unlucky not to score. Salah surprises again… where is the contract offer? Liverpool return to the top of the league. So far so good but the big test comes against Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Richard: The first half was miserable. The second one, much better. Why couldn’t we muster the urgency that we saw in the second half of the second half, at the beginning of the game? This type of syndrome (allowing ourselves to stay back and sit and wait until the crowd forces us to move forward with intention and pressure) we should do from the first minute.

Brighton fans:

Brian: The first 45 minutes were the best performance I can remember from a Brighton team. Hinshelwood and Ayari were excellent in midfield. In the end, Liverpool deserved their victory, but knowing that we have Pedro, Baleba, O’Riley, Minteh, March and Dunk close to returning from their injuries makes me believe that the future for us is very bright.

Ben: When will we be a little smarter? For the second goal, we again allowed one player to run half the field. Surely a quick tug on the shirt will get the yellow card and slow down the game. The submarines arrived 10 minutes late. After 65 minutes our midfield started chasing shadows and needed a refresh.

Sam: There were many positives to take away. We could have had three at half-time. However, a huge attack took us down. The only question I have is why didn’t Hurzeler put in the subs sooner?

Nicholas: Brighton showed signs that they can compete with the best and the future looks bright for them. There is simply that gap in experience and concentration that keeps them away from the big six clubs. After Manchester City next week, they should have 18 of 21 points, so keep an eye on them.
