Following an investigation by Channel 4’s Dispatches and The Sunday Times in September 2023, police received several reports of sexual offenses by women in London and elsewhere in the United Kingdom, police said in a statement sent to AFP.

The television documentary aired allegations from several women of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse.

Brand, 49, has denied the alleged abuse, which allegedly took place between 2006 and 2013.

“A file of evidence has been handed over to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS),” which will decide whether to press charges, the police statement added.

“As part of the investigation, a man aged in his 40s has been questioned by officers under caution on three separate occasions,” police said, adding that they were linked to a series of non-recent sexual offences.

“We have a team of dedicated officers who provide specialist support to the women who have come forward,” Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy said.

“We are committed to investigating sexual crimes, no matter how long ago they were allegedly committed,” he added.

Brand became known internationally as the ex-husband of pop star Katy Perry after forging a career as a stand-up comedian with risqué routines, often about drugs and sex.
