Police prevent sending two illegal migrant workers to Malaysia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Tangerang City Metropolitan Police arrested a man identified as ‘AWS’, 40 years old, on AMD Neglasari Street, Tangerang City. The man was supposedly going to send two women. migrant workers to Malaysia illegally.

The arrest was made by the Tangerang City Metropolitan Police Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force (TPPO) on November 1, 2024. “The task force was led by the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit, Commissioner David Yunior Kanitero,” said Tangerang City Metropolitan Police Chief, Grand Commissioner Zain Dwi Nugroho, Saturday, November 2, 2024.

The two migrant workers who were detained are DM and Y. They departed from Pekanbaru Riau Airport and were preparing to fly to Malaysia through Soekarno-Hatta Airport. AWS acted as a distributor of illegally migrant workers. It is suspected to have been carrying out this practice since 2020 and has sent around 100 workers to several countries, including Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Malaysia.

The arrest began when the TPPO task force received information about the location of a shelter and distributor of illegal or non-procedural migrant workers in the Neglasari area. “During the investigation process, we saw two women leaving the shelter in the direction of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, so we stopped them,” he said.

AWS has been declared suspicious. He is charged under Article 2 of Law Number 21 of 2007 on the TPPO with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison, in accordance with Article 81 Jo 69 of Law Number 18 of 2017 on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers with a maximum sentence of 10 years. imprisonment and a fine of up to 15,000 million rupees.
