The White House confirmed President Biden’s visit to Berlin on Thursday

The White House confirmed in a statement on Wednesday US President Joe Biden’s visit to Berlin later this week.

The statement confirmed that Biden will travel to the German capital on Thursday, where he will meet, among others, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Biden originally planned to visit Berlin last week, followed by Angola, but had to cancel the trip due to Hurricane Milton in the US.

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized in her statement the close cooperation between Biden and Scholz, especially on support for Ukraine.

She said the purpose of the meeting was “to further strengthen the close bond that the United States and Germany share as allies and friends and to coordinate geopolitical priorities, including the defense of Ukraine against Russian aggression and events in the Middle East.” East.”

The visit will be Biden’s first bilateral visit to Germany during his term.

He also originally planned to chair a summit on Ukraine at the US air base in Ramstein during his visit to Germany.

The White House has not yet announced whether the Ukraine summit will take place at a later date, but several meetings will take place in Berlin on Friday before Biden returns to the US.
