People in the Iranian capital, Tehran, demonstrated on Sunday against Israel and its sponsor, the United States. The protest came after Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned of a retaliatory response to last month’s Israeli attack.

The demonstration marked the 45th anniversary of the storming of the US embassy by Iranian students that sparked a hostage crisis.

Protesters carried photographs of leaders of the Islamic group Hamas and the Lebanon-based Shiite Muslim group Hezbollah, who were killed by the Israeli army.

They condemned Israel for attacking military facilities in Iran and criticized the United States for supporting Israeli operations.

A 60-year-old protester said Israel has engaged in U.S.-backed acts of aggression to threaten Iranians, and that Iran should retaliate severely.

Some protesters expressed concern that former US President Donald Trump could soon be re-elected. Trump took a hardline stance toward Iran while in office.

An 18-year-old man said many Iranians think Trump should never be president again.
