Sudbury news: Blind River resident wins  million in Ontario 49 draw

Blind River’s Glen Morningstar won the $2 million Ontario 49 top prize in the September 7 draw.

Morningstar, a father and grandfather, said he has been playing the lottery at OLG for 40 years. He said he carefully selects his figures based on family birthdays.

In a press release Wednesday, Morningstar said he is ecstatic to celebrate his first big win and the thrill of becoming a multi-millionaire.

“I was at home when I scanned my ticket on the OLG app,” he says in the press release.

“When I saw the ‘big winner’ message and the prize amount on the screen, I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t sleep at all that night… I stared at the ticket and said to myself: ‘This is possible’ It’s not Real!’ It was an incredible feeling.”

The first people Morningstar told about his big victory were his family.

“They were shocked and very happy for me,” he said.

“I tell everyone, ‘This is a great retirement package!’ I feel beyond lucky to have won this jackpot.”

Morningstar said he plans to save his winnings for retirement.

The winning ticket was purchased at Kwik-Way on Causley Street in Blind River.
