Teenage pedestrian seriously injured after being hit by vehicle in northern Queensland

A 17-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old boy in northern Queensland on Saturday night.

Queensland Police are investigating the incident in Homebush, southwest of Mackay.

It is alleged that a white SUV was driving dangerously shortly before 10pm, before a second vehicle, a red Mazda 3, struck the 17-year-old girl who was on the road.

Police said the incident sparked a confrontation involving several people before the car’s passenger was allegedly attacked.

“The Mazda continued for a short distance before stopping, then several nearby people allegedly approached the vehicle and assaulted a 53-year-old passenger,” police said.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly after and broke up the group.

Young Glenella, 17, was transported to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 53-year-old Sarina man was also taken to hospital for treatment.

The other occupants of the Mazda, the 16-year-old driver, a 12-year-old passenger and a 56-year-old female passenger, were uninjured.

Police are investigating the circumstances.

Anyone with dash cam footage is urged to come forward.
