A child facing a life-threatening illness is heartbreaking.

It is difficult for parents or caregivers to know how to help when they need help themselves.

For ten years, the Duluth-based Northern Lights Foundation has been there to serve these children and their families. The foundation has provided financial support in the form of grants to hundreds of Northland families.

The foundation’s 10th annual children’s charity gala was held at the DECC. Dr. Ken Larson is the founder and chairman of the foundation. He said these types of events allow them to raise money to give to families.

“We provide grants to families with a child who has a life-threatening illness,” he said. “My heart is humbled by the continued support we receive year after year from our sponsors, businesses, volunteers and local supporters.

This year’s gala, held at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center, featured a social hour with more than 100 silent auction items, a dinner, a formal program, prizes and a live auction.

Larson said the gala is their largest fundraising event for the foundation. “My heart is humbled by the continued support we receive year after year from our sponsors, businesses, volunteers and local supporters.”
