Tata Curvv vs Citroen Basalt: Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) crash test results comparison.

The Tata Curvv achieved an impressive five-star safety rating, while the Citroen Basalt received a four-star safety rating

Bharat NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) recently crash-tested a number of new cars, including the Tata Curvv and Citroen Basalt SUV coupes. The Curvv received an impressive five-star rating (in typical Tata fashion), while the Basalt received a four-star safety rating, indicating that Citroen has also made progress in improving the safety of its vehicles. In this story, we decided to compare the crash test results of the Curvv and Basalt SUV coupes.

Tata Curvv

In the frontal deformable crash test, the Curvv provided good protection for the head, neck and chest of the driver and passenger. But protection for the driver’s left leg was rated as marginal. In the side-to-side movable barrier test, protection of the driver’s head and abdomen was good, while the chest received a satisfactory rating. In the side pole test, the driver’s head, chest, abdomen and pelvis were all well protected.

For the front and side protection of the 18-month-old infant, the dynamic score was 7.07 out of 8 and 4 out of 4, respectively. Similarly, the dynamic score for the 3-year-old child was 7.59 out of 8 and 4 out of 4, respectively. .

Citroën Basalt crash test

From the frontal deformable barrier test onwards, the head and neck of the driver and co-driver were well protected. However, the driver’s chest received marginal protection and the co-driver’s chest received sufficient protection. The thighs of both the driver and co-driver were marginally protected, while the driver’s left and right legs received marginal and adequate protection, respectively. On the other hand, the co-driver’s left leg received sufficient protection and the right leg received good protection. In the side impact test, the head, chest, abdomen and pelvis were all well protected, resulting in a full score of 16 out of 16. The side pole test was also performed with the driver’s head, chest, abdomen and pelvis all well protected became.

For the 18-month-old baby’s front and side protection, the dynamic score was 8 out of 8 and 4 out of 4 respectively. However, the three-year-old child’s dynamic score for the frontal impact was a disappointing 3.9 out of 8, and the same for the sides was 4 out of 4.

Takeaway meals

The Basalt lost points in the test with a deformable barrier at the front, which marginally protected the driver’s chest and adequately protected the co-driver’s chest. The Curvv, on the other hand, offered good protection to the chest of both driver and co-driver, resulting in a higher score than the Basalt.

Safety features offered

Tata Curvv: The Tata Curvv comes with safety features like 6 airbags (standard), electronic stability control (ESC) and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold. It also gets ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera with blind vision monitoring and a tire pressure monitoring system. The Curvv also has advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) of level 2, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance and automatic emergency braking.

Citroen Basalt: The Basalt’s safety kit also includes 6 airbags (standard), ESC, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, ESC and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). However, the Basalt lacks ADAS, front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera. Instead, it gets a rear parking camera.
