McLaren celebrates in Sao Paulo

Lando Norris won the 2024 Brazilian Sprint Race at the iconic Interlagos circuit. Following the McLaren driver were his teammate Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen, who finished in second and third position, respectively.

Round 1: It’s a clean start with the McLaren drivers maintaining their positions. Oscar Piastri continues to lead from pole followed by Lando Norris. Max Verstappen, who started 4th, cannot gain positions at the start.

Oliver Bearman, who replaces Kevin Magnussen at Haas, lost a couple of positions at the start, as did Lewis Hamilton. They now occupy 12th and 14th place, respectively.

Round 2: DRS enabled. Max Verstappen is very close to Charles Leclerc but currently cannot overtake him.

Round 3: A couple of great battles between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. The Red Bull driver is making multiple attempts to overtake, but Leclerc defends strongly.

Round 5: Charles Leclerc is now within DRS range of Lando Norris in second place.

Round 6: Lando Norris informs McLaren that he is faster than Oscar Piastri. However, the team fears losing the position to Charles Leclerc.

Round 9: Oliver Bearman overtakes Haas teammate Nico Hulkenberg. Shortly after, Hulkenberg loses another place to Red Bull’s Sergio Pérez.

Round 10: Oscar Piastri is told to give Lando Norris DRS. Charles Leclerc is within range of Norris’ DRS, so this will take that advantage away from the Ferrari driver.

Round 11: Sergio Pérez surpasses Oliver Bearman for ninth position. He is now racing behind VCARB driver Liam Lawson.

Round 12: Now a DRS train has formed at the front of the grid with Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen.

Round 13: The battle for third place heats up again, with Max Verstappen challenging Charles Leclerc. If McLaren were to change drivers while Lando Norris fights for the championship, this could be a good time to do it.

Round 15: Charles Leclerc is now out of reach of Lando Norris’ DRS.

Round 16: Lando Norris is informed that the team is happy for the drivers to maintain their current positions with Charles Leclerc out of DRS, but then swap on the final lap.

Round 18: Max Verstappen finally overtakes Charles Leclerc in the race towards Turn 4. He occupies third position.

Round 19: Red Bull encourages Max Verestappen: “Come on buddy. Chase them.”

Round 20: After a previous failed attempt, Sergio Pérez overtakes Liam Lawson for eighth position, which is the last place to earn points in the sprint.

Round 21: Yellow Flag in Sector 2! Nico Hulkenberg stopped with smoke coming from the rear of the Haas, a suspected exhaust problem. He’s out of the race.

Round 22: McLaren changes drivers. Lando Norris now takes the lead. However, Oscar Piastri now faces the threat of Max Verstappen.

Virtual safety car: This is likely to last until the end of the race, as Hulkenberg’s car is removed from the track. If so, Piastri’s second place is assured.

Round 24: The virtual safety car ends on the last lap! Oscar Piastri stops Max Verstappen.
