A Milwaukee man is accused of leading police on an 18-mile chase last month while driving at speeds of up to 120 mph.

Prosecutors charged Judge Pearson, 19, with fleeing or eluding police and second-degree recklessly endangering safety. On Friday, he pleaded not guilty to both charges.

police chase

The chase began on October 20, near 28th Street and Townsend. At approximately 8:20 pm that night, a criminal complaint establishes a milwaukee A police officer was conducting surveillance at a nearby gas station when he saw a man driving a black Mazda 3 to a pump.

Two other officers who were in the area saw the same black Mazda 3 with the same Wisconsin plates and saw that the vehicle had excessive tint on the windows, according to the complaint. Officers pulled up behind the vehicle and turned on their lights and sirens to conduct a traffic stop.

Court documents said the driver of the Mazda initially slowed down, but then accelerated to get away from police.

Officers pursued the driver for more than 18 miles as he reached speeds of 75 mph in residential areas and 120 mph on the interstate. The driver also ran several stop signs and traffic lights. Officers eventually ended the chase on the interstate near Brown Deer Road as traffic was heavier and lanes narrowed due to construction.

Police reviewed surveillance footage from the gas station and saw the driver sit in the seat of the Mazda before fleeing, according to the complaint. Police learned the vehicle was registered to Pearson.

By looking at a previous booking photo of Pearson, the complaint states that police determined that Pearson was the same person the officer saw in person and on surveillance video while sitting in the driver’s seat of the Mazda before the chase.

Officers then went to Pearson’s address and saw the black Mazda 3 with the same Wisconsin plates parked behind the residence, according to prosecutors.

Officers attempted to contact the people at the residence, but the complaint states they were unsuccessful until Pearson’s father arrived. Ultimately, Pearson’s father called him and he then left the residence and was taken into custody.
