Buffalo man who admitted killing Jaylan McWilson sentenced to prison

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WKBW) – A Buffalo man who admitted to killing Jaylan McWilson in a botched robbery has been sentenced to prison.

The Niagara County Prosecutor’s Office announced that 20-year-old Dennis D. Parson was sentenced in County Court on Tuesday to 22 years in state prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.

McWilson, who was 24 years old, was killed outside his home in Niagara Falls on January 21, 2023. According to authorities, it was a robbery gone wrong.

“The McWilson family has irreparably lost their son Jaylan, and a twenty-year-old young man will spend the next twenty years of his life in prison, and there is no reason for that. There was no good reason for the suspect to have an illegal gun, nor was there any good reason for him to shoot it. Part of the depth of the tragedy in this case is that it was so avoidable.”

-Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman

7 News spoke with Jaylan’s parents, Marsha and Howard McWilson, in August.

“I work through my pain, that’s how I survive,” Marsha said.
